The transition to the post-petroleum age

Most people – in government ministries, company board rooms, and individual households – are pressing on with their lives as though there is zero risk of premature peak oil, as things stand. But not all. Responsible companies are doing their risk assessments. Governments with their eyes collectively open are making plans for a proactive retreat from oil (e.g. Sweden, Portugal). And individuals in many towns and cities are joining with other people worried about peak oil to try and organise resilience into their communities. The Transition Towns organisation is the fastest growing social movement in the UK. If you haven’t heard of it, I recommend a look at their website, and this short video by the founder, Rob Hopkins. I am an advisor to the organisation, and from time to time give evening lectures when new groups are set up.
