The whistleblowers

Growing numbers of people in and around the oil industry are speaking out about the peak oil threat. Many of them have joined an organisation called the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas. The ASPO website will lead you to much information on the problem, and the video clip below – from the 2007 ASPO annual meeting – offers a taste of their views. Two of the speakers are a former chairman of Shell (Ron Oxburgh) and a former US Energy Secretary (James Schlesinger).

Some very good documentary films have been made about the problem. In my opinion, the best is Crude: the incredible journey of oil, made in 2007 by Richard Smith of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The full film can be viewed on the ABC website, and the following short clip gives you a feel.
